How To Keep Bananas Fresh

Don’t you hate it when your Bananas get brown and mushy?

Of course you want them to be really ripe when you are using them to make Banana Bread or Muffins, but an over ripe Banana is not the most appealing to eat.

Here is a simple trick to keep your Bananas fresh so they don’t ripen too quickly:

  • Simply wrap plastic wrap on the stems. It works best if you wrap each Banana stem separately. Your Bananas will now slowly ripen instead of turning brown right away.
  • Bananas produce ethylene gas which is what naturally ripens them, by wrapping the stems it hinders the gas production so it takes longer for the gas to aid in the ripening process.

  1. Storing bananas separately and elevated to allow for maximum air circulation around each banana is the best way to reduce exposure to ethylene gas and warmth. We have a product called the BananaRest which is a simple bamboo holder designed or this purpose.
