Candied Rum Bacon

A delicious caramelized Bacon.

Candied Rum Bacon is so easy to make. It smells fantastic as it bakes in the oven and the flavor is so delicious, you may want to make two batches!

Candied Bacon is great with a Bloody Mary, on ice cream or pairing it with anything you normally serve standard Bacon with. It is great just as a snack as well.

CANDIED RUM BACON

Ingredients:

  • 1 (12 oz.) Package Thick Sliced Peppered Bacon
  • 1/4 Cup Captain Morgan Rum
  • 2/3 Cup Maple Syrup
  • 3/4 Cup Light Brown Sugar

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Line a baking sheet with foil. Set a cookie cooling rack on top of the foil. Spray the rack with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

3. In a shallow dish, whisk together the Brown Sugar, Rum and the Maple Syrup.

4. Dredge the individual Slices of Bacon in the Brown Sugar Mixture, then lay them on the prepared rack/baking sheet. The Bacon slices should not be touching. Do not discard the remaining Brown Sugar mixture, you will be using it later.

5. Bake the Bacon in the preheated oven for 17-18 minutes. Remove the Baking sheet from the oven and flip the Bacon over. Now brush the remaining Brown Sugar mixture on top of the Bacon. Place the Bacon back in the oven and bake and additional 17-18 minutes. Look for the edges to crisp up and the coating to start caramelizing.

6. Remove the Bacon from the oven, after the required baking time. Allow the Bacon to cool slightly. The Brown Sugar coating will now become more caramelized as it cools, and it will crisp up a bit more.
